Ranking Every Richard Linklater Film Worst To Best

7. School Of Rock (2003)

School Of Rock
Paramount Pictures

Over the years, School of Rock has emerged as arguably Richard Linklater's most popular film, and to be honest it's pretty clear to see why. An absurd premise that follows a washed-up rocker (Jack Black) as he pretends to be a temporary teacher and begins to teach his class about the merits of music, School of Rock is unabashed insanity.

Between Jack Black's scenery-chewing performance and Joan Cusack's hysterical and inept principal, the comedy's biggest strength is its ability to balance Linklater's loose, character-driven stylings with the structure of a more accessible Hollywood studio feature.

School of Rock has become something of a cult classic since its release, and today still watches as an exciting and bonkers assessment of rebellion, rock 'n' roll and living life to the fullest. It may not be the deepest film the director's ever done, but it's easily one of his most rewatchable and fun.
