Ranking Every Richard Linklater Film Worst To Best
2. Dazed And Confused (1993)
"Alright, alright, alright." With that, both Richard Linklater and Matthew McConaughey were immortalised in cinema history. Based on his own high school experiences, Dazed and Confused is everything from witty stoner comedy, a philosophical tale of growing up in uncertainty, and a portrait of youthful abandon.
Perhaps the best aspect of Dazed and Confused is just how easy it is to watch. Linklater's storytelling is spotless, fluid and, despite the abundance of characters, easy to follow and fall in love with. The fashion, the setting, the mood, the music, the dialogue, the drinks - Dazed and Confused captures the vibe of the late 70s with startling results.
Featuring characters at odds with their lives - whether moving to college, senior year in high school or being stuck in the same old place - the film has all the dramatic trademarks of Linklater's best work, whilst also being one of the funniest comedies of the 90s. A bona fide classic everyone needs to see, for sure.
