Ranking Every Scorsese/DiCaprio Collaboration Movie From Worst To Best
2. The Departed
The Departed really is a triumph of mid-noughties movie-making. I won't go so far as to call it a remake because we know Hollywood only entertain uniquely original ideas, but it's certainly based on Hong Kong film Internal Affairs from 2002.
This fact, coupled with the ensemble cast having a fame rating about twice as high as Jesus himself (Mark Chapman is still in prison, right?) might have led a few to doubt the quality of this motion picture, but little did they know messrs DiCaprio and Scorsese were about to pull yet another gem out of their bag, which by now we're all pretty sure contains just gems and nothing else...
Everything just fits in The Departed; the complex storyline, the fast paced dialogue, the character arcs (whatever the hell they are), even the endless f***ing swearing has its place - that's not just to make the characters seem hard as nails, that's just how real-life gangsters actually f***ing talk! Who knew?!
The Departed earned Marty his first (and to date, only) Academy Award for Best Director and Leo a Satellite Award for Best Supporting Actor... which is cute... but his facial hair was absolutely spot on so thumbs up all round for the both of them on this one.
