Ranking Every Tobe Hooper Film From Worst To Best

2. Poltergeist

Tobe Hooper
MGM/UA Entertainment Co.

Anyone who saw Poltergeist in their youth will have a scene that haunted their childhood nightmares, from that terrifying clown to the kid-hungry tree.

Or how about that pool filled with corpses, the face-melting sequence or the iconic moment when young Carol Anne is swallowed by the TV? These are some of the most iconic horror moments of the 1980s.

Poltergeist is a supernatural masterpiece from Tobe Hopper and all of its moving parts chug along like a well-oiled machine. The family unit is relatable and well cast, Zelda Rubinstein steals the show as the eccentric medium Tangina and Jerry Goldsmith's score hits all of the right notes.

Poltergeist has inspired countless filmmakers over the years. It's influence can be seen in everything from the Insidious franchise to Paranormal Activity and even The Ring, but none of these imitators have managed to out-spook it.
