6. Obadiah Stane/Iron Monger - Iron Man
Another villain from 2008, which makes me believe that when Marvel were first starting out, they didn't put much thought into their villains, aside from them mirroring the aspects and abilities of the hero of each film, and then making them a bit bigger and more daunting. However, I believe this tactic works when it comes to the Iron Monger. Sure, it doesn't make any sense that Obadiah Stane knows how to control the suit perfectly without any practice, compared to Tony Stark having to continually practice and get used to his suit, but the idea that Tony has no amazing "super powers" like his Avengers buddies, and therefore all he has to protect himself is a suit of armour, and then another dude comes along -
literally, as Stane is played by The Big Lebowski himself, Jeff Bridges - with a much larger and advanced suit of armour, instantly presents Stane as a threat and therefore a good villain. My problem with Stane as a villain is that like Blonsky he isn't very complex. He is very simplistic in that all he wants is Tony out of the way so he can have all the power, control and money of Stark Industries. Not very original. However, there is something very sinister to Bridges' performance, especially the scenes in which Pepper Potts is trying to get information from Stane's office computer and when he uses the sonic device on Raza. This subtlety sinister performance I feel is not necessarily down to a brilliant character though, but more so due to Bridges fine talents as an actor.
