Box Office: Quite why anyone thought it was a good idea to give Lasse Hallström (Dear John, A Dog's Purpose) a $133 million budget will remain one of life's great mysteries, because just about everybody saw this colossal box office bomb coming.

After a month on release, Disney's latest fantasy adventure flick is a few million shy of recouping its base budget, but of course, factoring in marketing and Hollywood accounting, the movie needed to gross upwards of $300 million to make anything approaching a profit.

This marks Disney's third high-profile flop this year after A Wrinkle in Time and Solo: A Star Wars Story. Ouch.

Verdict: Keira Knightley gives an amusingly campy performance, but otherwise this is a soulless, hollow attempt to give The Nutcracker the Alice in Wonderland treatment.

Mackenzie Foy is a fine enough lead, but the likes of Helen Mirren and Morgan Freeman are totally wasted in it, and none of its lavish visuals have any staying power whatsoever.
