The core of the film may be pure, generic holiday schmaltz, but Russell gives a genuinely stellar performance, fully committed to the part and playing it surprisingly straight for the most part.

The definition of easy viewing, and Russell's involvement ensures adults should get a kick out of it alongside their kids.
