8. My Scientology Movie
RottenTomatoes Score: 92% (6.3/10)
Box Office: There's zero chance this one cost more than a million or two to produce, and it's made $1,903,206 primarily from the UK and Australia, ahead of a U.S. rollout next March. When you factor in home video and TV sales, this one will be at least modestly profitable.
Verdict: Louis Theroux may not provide an authoritative takedown of Scientology as some may be hoping for, but his fascinating experimental documentary film teases out his usual dry humour and deep humanism, considering the church's more sinister activities while posing the possibility that those who follow it may simply be looking for some good in the world.
Theroux is a fascinating everyman interviewer as usual, and the lengths the Scientologists go to in order to keep him quiet (namely creepily following him around with video cameras) is just staggering.
