Ranking October 2016's Movies - From Worst To Best
1. I, Daniel Blake
RottenTomatoes Score: 92% (7.7)
Box Office: Ken Loach's latest kitchen sink drama has made just over $1 million to date, and expect strong word-of-mouth to leave it in good stead for its home video release in a few months. Loach's films are rarely money-spinners, but it'll do just fine in the long term.
Verdict: A damning indictment of Britain's entangled benefits system, the 80-year-old Loach's latest film is immensely angry and with damn good reason.
Incredibly sympathetic if absolutely unsubtle, the film benefits hugely from Dave Johns's awards-worthy central performance as an ill man looking to get back into work, and given its passionate plea for a little humanity for society's most vulnerable, don't be surprised if you shed more than a few tears before film's end.
