5. Zootopia
As hard as Disney have tried to match the quality of their sister studio, it remains evident that pound for pound Pixar just takes the crown. Since Pixar released Toy Story in 1995, Zootopia is as close as Disney has come in that time to matching their finest work.
Zootopia is a sprawling adventure through the underbelly of a wide and varied city, which in some way draws a relation to Michael Mann's Heat.
As Rabbit officer Judy Hopps makes her way through this film trying to uncover a conspiracy, with her uneasy partnership with a fox called Nick Wilde in tow, we're treated to a visual delight that contains as many references to other films as any Disney offering since Aladdin.
A box-office windfall of just over a billion dollars against a production budget of around $150 million saw this roar into cinemas with aplomb. Of course, an RT score of 97% helped too.
It has to be said that in terms of an all-round package considering cast, story, visuals, direction, and underlying message, Zootopia is a delightful romp that children everywhere will enjoy for decades to come.
With this one, Disney returned to the halcyon days of yesteryear with a new gloss of paint and strong female protagonist to propel them forward.
