Ranking The A Nightmare On Elm Street Films From Worst To Best
1. A Nightmare On Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors
Purists will want our heads for this one, but Dream Warriors is the perfect distillation of everything that the Nightmare on Elm Street series is all about. Great characters, mind-bending set-pieces, and a whole host of fantastic gore gags.
Set within the confines of Westin Hills Psychiatric Hospital, this fantasy-horror epic saw a group of troubled teens being preyed upon by Freddy, who utilises their own fears and traumas against them. What Freddy wasn't counting on, however, is the return of Nancy, who comes to Westin Hills as an intern therapist and helps the teens harness the power of their dreams in order to challenge Freddy to a final showdown.
Narratively speaking, this is the most important film in the Elm Street mythos - offering up a shocking conclusion to Nancy and Freddy's story, as well as giving us our first glimpse into the harrowing circumstances that lead to Freddy's conception. Two plot points that would further influence the subsequent films in the series and continue to shape the character for years to come.
The time has come for us to rank it alongside the likes of The Goonies and Ghostbusters because it really is one of the best 80's films.
