Ranking The Batman Movie Actors In Order Of How Intimidating They Are
1. Robert Pattinson
The first time we see Robert Pattinson’s version of Batman, we hear first the footsteps of something coming out of the shadows. When he does come out, the first thing he does is beat up a man to an inch of his life within a second. Immediately, we know this guy is bad news.
One thing that helps a lot is Matt Reeves’ The Batman’s quasi-realistic tone. In this context, a guy who dresses up like a bat every night to beat up criminals in the bad parts of the city and calls himself “Vengeance” is a scary thought. In other Batman adaptations, when Batman walks into a crime scene we side with Jim Gordon for Batman to stay and take the lead. Here in Matt Reeves’ version, the other cops’ complaints that he should not be there seem like the more reasonable response.
Batman does not exactly look like he is right in the head. He is so obsessed with his crime-fighting persona and hunt for retributive justice, that he probably smells terrible. The Riddler is intentionally made to feel like The Zodiac Killer or John Doe from Se7en, and Batman is not that far removed from that kind of description.
One thing that helps a lot is how expressive Pattinson’s eyes are through his mask. We know exactly what he is thinking at all times, and through it we know he is not always in control of his emotions. One hint of bad news he cannot handle and we don’t know what he will do next.
If you spot this Batman in an abandoned subway, does he look like a hero, or does he look like a serial killer in the vein of The Zodiac Killer?
