Ranking The Films Of Bong Joon-ho From Worst To Best
6. Snowpiercer
Set in a dystopian future, the last of humanity has boarded the Snowpiercer, a train that travels around an Earth that is now a frozen wasteland. Those on board are separated by class as the poverty stricken citizens are confined to the cramped and unseemly back of the train, while the more wealthy and upper class passengers live closer to the front.
The first film Bong Joon-ho made in the English language is one of his most high concept films, with societal issues close to his heart. After deciding they won't put up with the oppression of the upper class anymore, those at the back of the Snowpiercer begin a revolution as they slowly work their way up the train.
Surprisingly gory at times, Bong does not hold back in this visceral action film which he uses to discuss points about class and society. With a cast that includes Chris Evans, John Hurt, Song Kang-ho, Ed Harris, Octavia Spencer and a particularly great Tilda Swinton, Snowpiercer is definitely Bong's biggest foray into Hollywood filmmaking (even if they botched the distribution).
Sadly, the second half struggles from some pacing issues which hinder the film, considering Bong's filmography is known for how tight his narratives are.
