3. Iron Monger/Obadiah Stane (Iron Man)
Many fans point to Robert Downey, Jr. as the reason for Iron Man's success and, as such, the success of the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. While Downey was the linchpin for the film and the franchises it spawned, Iron Man wouldn't have been as well-received without an exceptional script and supporting cast - and besides Downey, no member of the cast was as important as Jeff Bridges.
Bridges played Obadiah Stane, chief business partner of Tony Stark (and his father, Howard, before him). Stane seems to be a friendly old man who cultivates Tony's genius and can only shake his head at his antics, but the truth - discovered by Pepper Potts and revealed to Tony all too late - is that Stane orchestrated an attempt to kill Tony in order to steal control of his company. When that doesn't work, there's nothing he can do besides put on his own suit of armor and take it to the hero.
Like Justin Hammer, Stane simply isn't as smart or as talented as Tony Stark, but unlike Hammer, Stane doesn't seem to know it - or he doesn't care. He sidles up to Tony Stark at every opportunity, and he only reveals his plan when he's entirely sure that nothing can compromise it. Of course, Tony Stark wins in the end, but the cocksure Stane clearly never even considered that possibility.
