Ranking The Potential Of Each Streaming Service

5. Peacock

Disney Plus
NBC

Estimated Subscribers – 33m

Given that Peacock is the newest major entrant into the streaming game, having only been on the market for eight months, you'd expect them to be playing catchup. NBCUniversal have employed a few aces up their sleeve, however, and seem quickly poised to make an impact.

The first of these is the strength of their programming. Though NBC don’t hold the streaming rights to Friends, arguably their biggest success story as a network, they have paid $500m to pick up one of their others, The Office, which has significant pulling power, alongside other heavily binged shows, for those wanting to rewatch their old favourites for the 57th time.

The second of these is their employment of tiers. Peacock offers free and premium versions, with the former designed as hook to entice payment for the latter.

Diverse appeal is also being sought through the addition of NBC Sports (the American home of the Premier League) and the WWE Network, the latter of which should pull in the majority of Vince McMahon’s existing subscribers given that the whole Peacock package is being offered at half of the standalone network’s price.

Throw in Universal’s slate of films, which are significant enough to compete with Disney in the theme park arena, and the future looks relatively rosy for Peacock, assuming that their pricing strategy doesn’t see them haemorrhage a non-recoupable amount of money.
