Ranking What Was Really The Best Horror Movie Every Year 1990-2021

5. 2017: Get Out

The very definition of an "instant classic," Get Out did an almost impossible thing by combining a unique horror concept with powerful social commentary that spoke poignantly to the century's biggest societal issues.

Written and directed by Jordan Peele, it follows an African-American photographer (Daniel Kaluuya) who realises his girlfriend's parents are hiding a deadly secret.

Self-aware and laced with palpable menace, Get Out came out just as the world was starting to really reckon with its racial divides, and in the process became a film with more levels of fright than anyone could have foretold.
