Ray Winstone: 5 Awesome Performances and 5 That Sucked

1. The Devil's Tomb (2009)

The fact that the above image is the only one of Winstone that we could source from the film says a lot about The Devil's Tomb, a straight-to-video slice of bargain bin bollocks that doesn't deserve three extremely talented actors - Cuba Gooding Jr. and Ron Perlman alongside Winstone - at its helm. It's a simple story even for the subterranean standards of this sort of film; a group of elite soldiers embark on a secret mission to rescue a hot scientist from a gloomy underground facility, only to discover that the other scientists down there are in fact possessed, and they'll have to fight for their lives. It's difficult to imagine what could have, er...possessed...Winstone to take part in something like this; having just come off Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull as well as Beowulf, and getting ready to make Edge of Darkness, one can't fathom why he would look to make some side-cash - and probably not that much - on such a dreary, unoriginal piece of slathered-together mulch. Everyone involved phones it in, though at least Winstone still gets choice parts; Cuba Gooding Jr. remains a tragic example of how an actor, no matter how talented, can fall from grace.
