Ray Winstone starring in The Sweeney remake?

The Sweeney last year but now it looks like it's well into production. Ray Winstone is set to play Jack Regan (a role originally played by the late John Thaw) and the movie is to be helmed by Nick Love who most recently directed the gritty British crime movie Outlaw. The Sweneey isn't really of my era but the show is legendary for being the first fully realistic chop show in this country. They had real fully dimensional characters, including cops who crossed the line and was a brutal show compared with other shows of it's time. The Sweeney followed two cops, so another actor will be needed to star alongside Winstone in the role of Sgt. George Carter who was originally portrayed by Dennis Waterman. It's not yet known at this time whether it will be set in the same era of the show or whether it will simply be a cop movie that uses the title and a couple of similarities to the original show like Miami Vice did. I say Love will probably go with an updated version. His other movies The Football Factory and The Business all exist in this world, he's comfortable with it and with Paul W.S. Anderson's remake of The Long Good Friday being set in the U.S, it will be nice to see London portrayed as it is today on screen.
