Ready Player One: 135 Easter Eggs & References Explained

5. Battleborn

As spotted way back in December on Twitter, there's also a cameo for Battleborn's giant luchador El Dragon in the final battle sequence.

At one point, fellow Battleborn character Attikus can be seen in the background of The OASIS.

4. Mass Effect

The Distracted Globe sequence is inevitably packed with eye-catching cameos - so packed, in fact that it's impossible to spot them all at once. But look closely and you'll see a familiar shaved-headed hero wearing N7 Armor - Commander Shephard kicking back with a giant cartoon fish, apparently.

And not to be outdone, the female version of Commander Shepard also turns up in the final battle.

3. Bloodrayne

Once more, in the big battle sequence at the end of the movie, a red-headed avatar wearing a plunging neckline appears to be Rayne from the BloodRayne series. You have to really strain your eyes to notice her though.

2. Starcraft

Wade's aunt's boyfriend, Rick, wears a StarCraft Space Marine skin in The OASIS.

1. Joust

The battle scene has some special teams turning out for Z's army, including one reappropriation of a key game from the book version of Ready Player One. Instead of it being part of one of the tasks the High Five must defeat, characters from Joust - including Acererak The Demi-Lich who guards the key in the book - ride into battle with Parzival.

You see Acererak on the back of a giant scorpion attacking Sixers (alongside at least one Ostrich rider), and the defeated enemies even turn into eggs, just as they do in the original game.

There's also a Joust poster in Halliday's apartment.
