What Happened?

To be totally clear, Green Lantern has never actually had his coming out party in the DCEU, despite long-gestating plans for a Green Lantern Corps movie and for the character to join the Justice League.

A Lantern was briefly spotted in Snyder's Justice League movie, but the last major portrayal of the superhero was Ryan Reynolds' lame duck performance as Hal Jordan in Martin Campbell's doomed 2011 movie.

The Recast

The likes of Tyrese, Chris Pine and even Tom Cruise (!) have been linked to various iterations of Green Lantern over the last few years, and though there was plenty of intrigue surrounding John Boyega potentially playing the John Stewart version, Boyega himself laugh-groaned at the prospect, so that's that.

This is a wide open role albeit one which many actors will understandably approach with caution, yet passionate fan campaigns have been nudging the needle towards John Krasinski in recent times.

Between his star-making work on The Office and his more recent dramatic performance in A Quiet Place, Krasinski has range to spare, and given that he was originally up for the Captain America role, he's clearly interested in the genre.

When rumours first started doing the rounds of him playing Hal Jordan, the actor himself somewhat sardonically expressed surprised delight.

He's got the look and the demeanour necessary to pull off the character's inherent silliness, so what's not to like?

There have been persistent rumours - or rather, wishful thinking - that Krasinski could end up playing the MCU version of Reed Richards, but given that Kevin Feige is in no rush to get that ball rolling, Warner Bros. certainly has time to scoop him up first.
