Variety reported this morning that
Reese Witherspoon has single handily spearheaded the development of a biopic of famous musician/sometimes actress
Peggy Lee, with
Nora Ephron (Julie and Julia) set to write and direct at Fox 2000. Because all we need is another biopic of a music icon, right? Witherspoon will tell you she is a life long fan of Peggy Lee and it's been her dream to play the icon since she was a little lassie whose mother played her songs from the era - which might all be truisms but the more pressing matter might be Reese's failing post-Oscar career. Since her Oscar win for singing June Carter songs in
Walk The Line five years ago, her career has nosedived - not quite in a
Ben Affleck 2003-2006 way, but her stock has certainly lowered significantly. She's picking things up again recently by doing
a James L. Brooks movie that's out later this year, and the incredible sounding
Paul Thomas Anderson movie The Master. Developing another biopic, this time one centered around her and Reese's undoubted singing talents, is probably a smart move. But I'm reading her
WIKI entry and where's the drama in Lee? Poor girl whose mother died young makes it big? Is that all there is to it, or am I missing something?
