Richard Linklater Gives Us The Trailer For His 'Spirtual Sequel' To Dazed And Confused

It's called Everybody Wants Some.

After last year's Boyhood debuted to an insane (yet well-deserved) amount of critical praise, writer-director Richard Linklater has gone back to the well in a sense. His next project is a thematic follow-up to the cult classic Dazed And Confused, described as a 'spriritual sequel'. Everybody Wants Some is Linklater's take on the 80s, and similar to its stylistic forebear, revolves around a group of young mostly-unknowns figuring out life against an academic backdrop. Take a look at the trailer below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=komFgqFKR6o It looks like good fun as far as I'm concerned. Linklater has a knack of presenting vaguely funny moments dressed up in normalcy, and that aesthetic definitely looks to be present here. There's a lack of eye-watering hilarity to said moments, which is key to the director's oeuvre; they accurately depict those moments in our lives that might inspire a slight upturn of a smile; a sort of faint amusement at the ridiculousness of life's many twists and turns. Look at me, getting all wistfully ponderous about Linklater's work. But that remains the appeal of his films; he's like an American Wong Kar-wai, a dab hand at giving audiences a simple slice of life. Here's hoping that Everybody Wants Some has the same kind of cultural impact that Dazed and Confused had, if only because Richard Linklater deserves to find that kind of success once again. Also released is a pretty stylish poster. Check it out below:
Everybody Wants Some is released on 15 April 2016 in the US and 13 May in the UK.
