Richard Madden Eyed For Marvel's The Eternals Role
The (former) King in the North joins the MCU.
With production on the Marvel Cinematic Universe's The Eternals set to kick off this August, it's been reported that Richard Madden (Game of Thrones, Bodyguard) is in talks to appear in the comic book tentpole.
Based on the superheroes created by Jack Kirby in the mid-1970s, the movie will be directed by ChloƩ Zhao (The Rider) and has previously been confirmed to star Angelina Jolie, Kumail Nanjiani and Korean actor Ma Dong-seok.
There's no concrete word on who Madden will be playing, though given that Kevin Feige confirmed last year that the movie will revolve around Jolie's Sersi and her cosmic-fuelled superhero lover Ikaris, it seems probable that Madden will be playing the latter.
The film is said to follow not only their romance but also the Eternals' attempts to protect Earth from the malevolent cosmic entities known as the Deviants.
Between Madden's recent Best Actor Golden Globe win for Bodyguard and this casting, it's safe to say that his post-Thrones career sure is picking up traction.
The Eternals doesn't yet have a concrete release date pencilled in, though with Disney recently announcing Marvel's eight-film Phase 4 slate, it seems likely it'll land on either November 6, 2020 or February 12, 2021.
