A bizarre mega-franchise, Night At The Museum has brought together a pretty stellar cast who give their all in their attraction roles - gotta love Coogan and Wilson’s miniatures.

Outside of the exhibits, however, things aren’t as alluring, with everyone just playing themselves. The most grating of the lot is Ricky Gervais as the museum’s curator, a bookend role that’s only there to ensure every comedy type is accounted for. It’s broad, silly and totally for the money.

Things get worse as we go through the trilogy - yes, this is a trilogy - when they try and inject some pathos to the role with him losing his job in 3, something that only feels more desperate.
