3. Eddie Valiant - Who Framed Roger Rabbit? (1988)
Perhaps the movie that Bob Hoskins is most famous for is the best animated/live-action crossover of all time - and that includes Space Jam. Proving he has comedic chops as well as a forte for dramatic acting, Hoskins shone as down-on-his-luck private detective Eddie Valiant who ends up working, rather reluctantly for the eponymous cartoon hero. Acting and reacting alongside animated characters would have been no easy task for any actor but Hoskins handles the role with considerable aplomb. There's something about British actors putting on American accents that puts an audience off watching a film - despite Michael Caine winning an Oscar for Cider House Rules, his American accent is only just better than Ray Winstone's in The Departed - but we can look past that and see why Hoskins gained his second Golden Globe nomination for the film. A much more successful comedic venture for Hoskins than 1993's Super Mario Bros., Who Framed Roger Rabbit will go down as the one film mentioned in the same breath as Hoskins' name. A fantastic performance, yes, but not the best...
