Rob McElhenney's Minecraft Gets Confirmed Release Date
Remember, the freaks come out at night.
Polish off that diamond pickaxe and keep a peeper out for a pesky creeper, the upcoming big screen adaptation of Minecraft has just secured it's release date. It's coming out on May 24, 2019.
The 2019 release date pitches Minecraft up against the second instalment of Marvel's Avengers Infinity War and Warner Bro's Justice League: Part II which is currently set to open in June. Don't worry though Minecraft fans, the film is in the more than capable hands of director Rob McElhenney, whose It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia adaptation of Lethal Weapon 6 tells you
It's still to be revealed which direction Minecraft will go in terms of plot, but the game's characters and iconography are dead certs to form the basis of everything. Here's one for you, why not have a Hobbit-style burglary job featuring Steve and the Ender Dragon? The possibilities are endless, but given McElhenney's extensive experience as a writer, actor and producer, you can guarantee Minecraft will be packed full of charm and chuckles.
The challenge is likely to be balancing the audience so there's enough for kids and adults to enjoy simultaneously. Which, if done right, could help Minecraft continue to be a goldmine.
