ROCK OF AGES Trailer Showcases 80's Hair Band Camp!

Tom Cruise and a billion wigged movie stars feature in the rock & roll romance adaptation of the stage musical that opens in June.

New Line Cinema have debuted the trailer and poster for the almost parody-camp Rock of Ages, the adaptation of the stage musical love letter to 80's rock music that comes to cinemas in June. Directed by Hairspray€™s Adam Shankman and co-starring the likes of Alec Baldwin, Catherine Zeta Jones, Paul Giamatti, Russell Brand, Mary J.Blige, Bryan Cranston and Malin Akerman in hideous wigs, the movie follows the story of a young girl (Julianne Hough) who arrives in LA during the height of the 80s rock scene, when hair, spandex and guitar solos were all over the place. The movie is basically a vehicle for Tom Cruise to win a place back in the hearts and minds of the general public who have dismissed him as totally wacko since the infamous Oprah couch thing and from the looks of the trailer I think it just might work for him. Here he plays legendary guitarist/singer/God Stacee Jaxx, a character who feels right out of Cameron Crowe's Almost Famous with a tinge of Frank T.J. Mackey's charisma. The trailer basically builds up to his reveal so you all know who this movie is living or dying on. Not since Hot Tub Time Machine have we seen a movie so in love with the 80's and with a soundtrack including Foreigner, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Whitesnake and Joan Jett, you can be under no illusion as to just who this trailer is made for. If you have any fondness for hair bands and a rock & roll romance and don't mind characters suddenly bursting into a musical number, then this is the film for you. Watch the trailer below, which features a terribly over-acting Alec Baldwin and Catherine Zeta Jones but we think the camp is intentional. We think... http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=z3PiKBlngDc And the Broadway musical style poster here... The movie is coming in June and I imagine if that local pub which plays 80's music every Friday night and has middle-aged, overweight men rocking around and feeling nostalgic about the old days is the kinda place you would run a million miles from.... this probably ain't gonna be for you.
