Russell Brand remaking Dudley Moore classic ARTHUR!

The Hollywood Reporter say Russell Brand, hardly the public's favourite figure now in the U.K. after his stupidity on Radio 1, is looking to build on his movie performance in the Dudley Moore-esque FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL by remaking the classic 1981 Moore film ARTHUR. Yes that's the film about the drunk playboy who inherits a fortune when he marries into a rich family. Perfect right? Though when he does fall in love, it's not with his rich wife but with a working-class woman and he turns to his valet for help in deciding between money and love. Evidence enough that it shouldn't be remade. The Academy Awards 1981....

Best Performance in a Leading Role - DUDLEY MOORE (ARTHUR) (nominated) Best Performance in a Supporting Role - JOHN GIELGUD (ARTHUR) (nominated) Best Original Song - Burt Bacharach, Carole Bayer Sager, Christopher Cross, Peter Allen - (ARTHUR) (won) Best Writing - STEVE GORDON (ARTHUR) (won)
It's a Warner Bros. production that Brand is taking huge interest in. According to the trades he is the one sitting in on potential screenwriting pitches. Brand can next be seen in the Adam Sandler Christmas comedy BEDTIME STORIES in a few weeks and follows that up with playing Trinculo in KING LEAR (Brand doing Shakespeare!) and reprising his role as Aldous Snow in the FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL sequel GET HIM TO THE GREEK co-starring Jonah Hill.
