Sacha Baron Cohen: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

1. Vinnie - The Jolly Boys' Last Stand (2000)

We€™ve reached the bottom of the barrel with a nondescript lads€™ movie from 2000 which somehow managed to snap up both Andy Serkis and Sacha Baron Cohen to lend it a modicum of credibility. Playing out as a found footage film recorded for the leader of €˜The Jolly Boys€™ Spider (Serkis) as a wedding present, the film passes in a blur of predictable banter and cans of cheap lager. It€™s a classic tale of friendships being tested when one member of the group finds themselves a significant other and despite its cast, doesn€™t offer anything new or interesting to say on the topic. Even when proceedings take a slightly darker turn, the audience has seen it all before. Baron Cohen, clearly having been hired for his work on the The 11 O'Clock Show and Comedy Nation, plays a well-trodden dense yet loveable role as Vinnie. The character sees what Spider is up to and decides that maybe it€™s time for him to get in on this marriage idea too, much to the dismay of the videographer Des who sees this as the beginning of the end for this previously inseparable group of drinking buddies. Rolled out whenever the director felt the need for a random humorous aside (including such done-to-death bits as attempting to film himself having sex), of all the actors, Baron Cohen is the most criminally underused and as such, goes through the motions in what is certainly his worst performance so far. At least he got it out of the way early in his career, although with Grimsby out, who knows? What do you think are Sacha Baron Cohen€™s best and worst performances? Are there any we€™ve missed?
