Over the years Gaiman worked with a huge number of artists on Sandman, but none more significant than long term collaborator Dave McKean. McKean is also a film director and, although it might be optimistic to hope he will be in the director's chair for the Sandman film, he is likely to have some input like his work as a concept artist on the Harry Potter series. One of McKean's previous movie projects was the film of Michael Sheen's Port Talbot passion play. Could this help Sheen get a part in Sandman? Having already played a McKean Jesus, it might make symmetrical sense to see Sheen go the other way and play Sandman's Lucifer. He has already a vampire aristocrat in Twilight, this is not too far of a stretch beyond that. Gaiman has previously remarked in no uncertain terms that his Lucifer was entirely drawn from David Bowie. With the Thin White Duke himself unlikely to be available, Sheen should have the quality to bring a Bowie-esque performance. After all his Castor in Tron: Legacy was nothing but Ziggy Stardust in a CGI fantasy world. Other options: Once again, many of the actors earlier suggested for the role of Dream are also popular online choices for the fallen angel, including Tom Hiddleston, Cillian Murphy and, because her name comes up whenever Bowie is mentioned, Tilda Swinton. But what do you think? Let us know in the comments who you want to see in a Sandman movie now it seems like it is really going to happen.
