One more reason to make The Doll's House the basis of the first Sandman movie is that it has the most memorable one-off villain of the series: shark smiled psychopath The Corinthian, whose white toothy grin is the same as the ones in the eye sockets behind his dark glasses. The rogue, uncontrollable nightmare is a genuinely scary threat who needs an actor who can look smooth, charming and totally sinister. Paul Bettany is an actor who does not seem to get the kind of parts or films that his obvious talent deserves. The likes of Legion and Priest show Bettany's ability to impress even in low quality dark fantasy actioners, think of how he might do with a more interesting part in a more interesting movie. Bettany is committed to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but as his role as Tony Stark's computer J.A.R.V.I.S. is a voice part, meaning that he will have more time to work on other projects than his fellow Marvel stars. Bettany is an affable and charming star, but by far his most commercially successful film, The Da Vinci Code, saw him as an unstoppable psycho killer. If any doubt remains about Bettany's suitability for the role of The Corinthian, people just need to remember his breakthrough role as a sharp suited murderous gangster and young Malcolm McDowell in Gangster No. 1. Other options: Timothy Oliphant has never had the same quality of role on film as he has on TV, but has the perfect look for the character and can be completely convincing as a psycho who enjoys tormenting people. Gary Oldman has long been a popular choice, hence this gif, but is perhaps getting too old for the part.
