Sarah Godon Is Mary Jane Watson In The Amazing Spider-Man 2?
Sarah Godon, a recent regular of David Cronenberg's works (A Dangerous Method and Cosmopolis... and also his son's movie Antiviral) confirmed to Entertainment Tonight Canada that she will soon be joining The Amazing Spider-Man franchise. Many outlets are already reporting that she's the new Mary Jane Watson and it does somewhat feel like too much of a coincidence that her casting has happened just days after original choice Shailene Woodley was axed, though her role has not yet been officially disclosed. However franchise director Marc Webb did insist this week that Woodley's already filmed role as Peter Parker's other, more feistier and red-headed love interest Mary Jane Watson was only omitted from The Amazing Spider-Man 2 to make the story simpler/cleaner... leaving Mary Jane's arc for The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and 4. So why would a replacement need to be cast so quickly, unless Webb, as a lot of sites thought reading between the lines, ditched Woodley for another actress? The Amazing Spider-Man 3 isn't due until 2016, and with next year's The Amazing Spider-Man 2 already so deep into filming, the casting of Godon just seems really curious and it's hard to see what else would be doing if she wasn't appearing as an MJ tease for the future films. Is a "Face it Tiger... You've Hit The Jackpot" post-credits moment in the offing for Peter Parker or would that be too detrimental given his current love Gwen Stacy's probable snappy conclusion in this sequel? The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is due next May, 2014.
