Spock's Vulcan father and the husband to Winona Ryder's Amanda Grayson in STAR TREK has been found. 59 year old British actor Ben Cross has been confirmed for the part according to Trek Movie.
Cross is mostly an unknown actor here in Britain but he has appeared in big productions like the early 80's classic CHARIOTS OF FIRE and Richard Attenborough's A BRIDGE TOO FAR. More recently he has appeared in THE EXORCIST: THE BEGINNING and next year's hitman/comedy WAR, INC alongside John Cusack. The original Sarek was played by late actor Mark Leonard and appeared 8 times in Trek continuity. In the new film, we expect small but significant screen time for both Ryder and Cross as we delve into the early days of Kirk, Spock and the rest of the crew. Can't say I know much about the guy but all this casting says to me, is how much of a bad decision it was to cast Winona Ryder as Spock's mum. With Cross being 59, that's an age gap of 23 years between husband and wife, but only a six year gap between mother and son. Something doesn't quite add up there.
