Say Hello To SCARFACE On Blu-ray!

Brian De Palma's crime drama classic Scarface, made at the height of the director's incredible run of knockout films in the 80's and featuring Al Pacino's completely wacky performance as Tony Montana, that like Jack Nicholson's Jack Torrence (The Shining) he would regularly and lazily tap back into for the rest of his career, is coming to Blu-ray in the U.K. this September 5th. This is a release that should be celebrated, especially as Universal Home Video are going all out with a disc that screams special edition. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jroIq779VEs If you've been reading our Blu-ray reviews lately you will have noticed that Universal have been putting out some very fine looking back catalogue releases this year but we've been rather critical about the lack of supplementary extra's (a crime when a Blu-ray disc holds so much space) and their bog-standard and annoying dvd menu's that are the same and indistinguishable from title-to-title. Thankfully, this Scarface release is something different as there's NEW BONUS content included. It's telling us this is a movie that's not to be forgotten, that can't be quietly released alongside a jumble of other titles. This one demands to be bought and seen. Though why the Blu-ray cover change? The original Scarface one-sheet is so iconic on it's own! (P.S. - Having said that, give it another five years and there'll be an ultimate Blu-ray released. How many Scarface special editions were released on DVD over years? Like 12? Scarface is one of those pop-culture cult classics than any young male feels like he must own to be a proper man... alongside Fight Club, The Godfather and Memento. Am I right?)
