Lo and behold, a new photo from
Priest (May 13th, Screen Gems) has finally surfaced and it isn't a fuzzy one from someone's mobile or one of Bettany being attended to by his make-up artist. We previously had
a first look last year. This one's for real and looking at the picture above, it looks like the craziest, religious, Bettany role since he played an albino priest in
The Da Vinci Code. Kinda fascinating how Bettany's choice of characters have gone lately. There was the above mentioned role in '06, then last year he played an archangel in
Legion, then the guy who killed relegion - Charles Darwin in
Creation and now a priest on the take-down of vampires! Coincidentally or not, Priest comes from
Scott Charles Stewart, the director of Legion. If you're still reading this after knowing it is somewhat associated with said movie, then you must REALLY like Paul Bettany or you're an extremely optimistic person. Either way, I'm willing to give Scott the benefit of the doubt on this one to see if he can pull it off. Priest has all the makings of a good horror-adventure flick and it'll be very cool if it turns out to be absolutely nothing at all like Legion. Set in a world ravaged by centuries of war between man and vampire, Bettany plays a warrior priest who turns against his Church to take down the blood suckers who have kidnapped his niece.
Cam Gigandet is his neice's boyfriend who helps Priest,
Maggie Q is Priestess (a member of his former legion of vampire-killers who has otherworldly fighting skills) and Karl Urban is the leader of the evil group. The film is due out May 13th, 2011.
