Shang-Chi & The Legend Of The Ten Rings Review: 7 Ups & 3 Downs

2. The Well-Placed Humour

If many have complained for years about the MCU's "Marvel humour" - that is, interjecting jokes whenever a scene is getting "too intense" - Shang-Chi actually achieves a pretty perfect balance tonally.

It's a very funny movie, for sure, but also knows when to dial back the gags and let the anxious human drama play out uninterrupted.

Similarly to Doctor Strange, humour is often used to bridge the gap between the "real world" and the film's more fantastical elements, and works perfectly to that effect.

If the MCU has absolutely earned its criticism for too often using jokes to deflect from uncomfortable subjects, there's really no such problem here at all.
