And finally we end on a Japanese 2003 film that is a sports/horror/comedy/martial arts mix. Based on the manga of the same name, the film follows the Seido High School baseball team in a tournament with a difference. In this tournament, you play the game until the other team is dead! For the first time in the schools history, the team have a chance to win. Unfortunately they have to face the infamous Gedo team. Gedo never lose, they specialise in brutal violent death dealing and Seido never stand a chance. Their star pitcher Jubeh stops playing just before the big game. When he hears how badly his team is doing in the match, he returns only to die. In the sepia-toned afterlife he finds himself in, he has an epiphany and returns as a zombie to reunite with his old team mates who are now a mixture of zombie and cyborg players. With his new team of "un-dead" players they take on Gedo once more. Critically, Battlefield Baseball didn't do so well. Despite the fact that the film is ostensibly about baseball, there is very little actually played in the film. There really is no plot, although fans of the film insist this is part of the films charm. The use of baseball bats, balls and various martial arts to kill the opposing team are clever and funny.
