Deadpool 3 finally has its director and his name is Shawn Levy.

THR and Variety have both confirmed that the Stranger Things and Real Steel director has officially been confirmed as the long-awaited sequel to 2018's Deadpool 2. This marks the third big screen collaboration between Levy and Ryan Reynolds, with the two previously working together on Free Guy and The Adam Project.

Reynolds himself took to Twitter to also share the news, revealing, "The third film in my Shawn Levy trilogy will be a tad more stabby”.

Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are back as screenwriters for the project, resuming their roles as script writers for the first two Merc with a Mouth projects. As of this moment, no other cast members have been confirmed to be returning or crossing over from other corners of the MCU. Though, Deadpool's recent fourth wall breaking appearance alongside Thor's Korg (played by Ragnarok and Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi) appears to suggest some barmy crossover chaos could be incoming.

Whether or not the likes of Josh Brolin's Cable, Zazie Beetz's Domino, or any other prior Deadpool cast member returns for more meta madness in this third instalment remains to be seen. But it finally looks as though this cheeky Marvel icon is well on his way to making his highly anticipated big screen MCU bow.
