SHAZAM movie ain't happening

Warner Bros. are failing to get another DC comic book character off the ground you probably won't be surprised to hear. This time it's Peter Segal's action comedy adaptation of Captain Marvel which went by the title of SHAZAM and was due to star The Rock as the villain Black Adam. Screenwriter John August has updated his blog detailing the situation which is blamed on a combination of the WGA strike, the death of New Line (which took the project to WB), the monumental success of THE DARK KNIGHT matched with the flop of SPEED RACER (showing what kind of movie WB now want from their superheroes) and studio executives turning sour on the project. You can read the very informative blog entry HERE which does a great job of showing you how these studio execs, who decide what movie it is we want to see, make their decisions. I was going to just grab bits of it but the article turned out to be so interesting I didn't want to chop it up. But here's the jist of the situation for those who simply just want to know the status of the movie...

By €œdead,€ I mean that it won€™t be happening. I don€™t think it€™s on the studio€™s radar at all. It may come back in another incarnation, with another writer, but I can say with considerable certainty that it won€™t be the version I developed.
