8. William Monaghan Co-Writing
William Monahan is one of Hollywood's most talented and brilliantly acerbic screenwriters, having scooped an Academy Award for his incendiary, acid-tongued work on Martin Scorsese's Best Picture-winning The Departed. Though not all of the writer-director's projects have taken off fully, it's difficult to imagine many writers being better suited to gritty pulp than Monahan; his near-Shakespearian cadence employed in The Departed will combine with Frank Miller's source material to make for an explosive, darkly comic mix like no other. Given how well he took on the original Hong Kong film that inspired The Departed, one can only imagine him tackling a graphic novel will be a match made in Heaven.
