Sin City: A Dame To Kill For - 15 Easter Eggs & References You Must See

12. The Broken Timeline Not so much an Easter Egg as a completely dropped ball. The film is a mixture of prequel, midquel and sequel, since parts of it run at the same time as the first Sin City and others book-end that narrative, so there was always going to be some issue with the timeline. There was also the fact that the first film borrowed some elements of the A Dame To Kill For story, which meant some rewrites to accommodate, but not every problem was quite addressed. Thanks to Marv's involvement with Nancy's storyline, the timeline took an almighty thumping. In the first film, Marv sees Nancy at one point before she gets the scars seen in the second film, during the storyline that ultimately leads to his execution, and even allowing for some confusing timeline moments, it's very obvious in the first film that Senator Roark is still alive when Marv kills Cardinal Roark, since - as the paper cutting shows - the Senator decried the crime, which would have been remarkably difficult considering he was already supposed to be dead. It might be a long time since that first film came out, but that's some careless screenwriting.
