5. Raoul Silva's Secret Deformity

One of the more unexpected, less talked about elements of Skyfall is Silva's grotesque little secret that places him firmly within the pantheon of classic Bond villains; his secret deformity. Once Silva is captured early on - as far as his arc goes, anyway - he explains to M and Bond that when he was on assignment - for he used to be one of M's Hong Kong field agents - he was captured, and decided to take his cyanide capsule. However, the cyanide did not kill him, it simply ruined his insides, as well as melting part of his face off, along with his teeth, such that he has to wear a prosthetic appliance to keep his face resembling a regular shape. During the above interrogation scene, we get a brief glimpse of it when he removes the prosthetic, with superbly employed visual effects showing off Silva's horrifying true countenance, with no teeth, drooping eyelids and large flesh-less gaps in his cheeks.
