Snoop Dogg & Wiz Khalifa Go Back To Stoner HIGH SCHOOL

What do comic performances by rappers, high school comedies and €œstoner€ comedy all have in common? You€™re quite correct; NONE of them are- with VERY rare exceptions- even remotely funny. It does not bode well, therefore, that a new film by Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa will seek to combine all three and thus seek to corner three inane niche markets. The film was the consequence of a collaboration between the two for Snoop€™s next album, Doggumentary. The man himself said of the film (imaginatively) titled High School:
"(It€™s€..) a comedy stoner movie, a little something for the stoners."
He goes on;
€œIt should be coming out pretty soon. We€™ve got the soundtrack going with it, too, which is a really big deal. It€™s basically like me and Snoop€™s album; it€™s me and him going back and forth on songs the whole time, so it€™s a big deal. It€™s about pot, of course. But it€™s about mine and his relationship. A spin-off of us being cool in the industry, smoking a lot of weed, being around a lot of weed. We€™re going to try to have fun with it and also try to enlighten people at the same time, not just get everybody high.€
Disregarding the fact that if you use a drug so habitually it has become fundamental to your identity, you would be best served by a cold hard look at your life rather than a film that panders to your addiction, the main problem with this is that €œstoner films€ aren€™t funny. The films which, classically, have been amusing to those using marijuana are those that are funny under any other circumstance. While those that appeal only to those in cannabis€™ indolent subculture only ever do so at the most base level, not so much seizing a niche audience as obviating any qualities that transcend it. An unspecified date in May is mooted for shooting to begin although, as yet, it is unclear whether Snoop will be acting, writing, directing or producing- or any combination of these. It is probable, however, that both men will play some part on screen- not merely due to the narcissism inherent in hip-hop- but as implied by Snoop€™s increasing on screen appearances, including endless cameos on TV and film. In the mean time, Snoop's new album Doggumentary features a track collobration with Khalifa titled "The Weed is Mine"... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lkfeq6MtBto
