So it's QUANTUM OF SOLACE then...

If you ask me, I think the producers behind the next James Bond movie have experienced a difficult time in coming up with a title for the 22nd film in the franchise. For the time being at least, it's pretty obvious that they want to stick to titles that Bond creator Ian Fleming came up with for their new "back to the original source interpretation" they successfully moulded for Daniel Craig in 2006. The problem is though and we reported this back in September, that only leaves a few titles not yet already adapted into BOND films, those are the short story titles Riscio, The Property of a Lady, The Hildebrand Rarity and The Quantum of Solace. Not the most marketable Bond titles I'm sure you would agree.

News leaked today at the widely talked about Bond press conference (cast pictured together for the first time above) that they went for the most far out sounding Bond title since MOONRAKER with the name QUANTUM OF SOLACE further delaying the time when they are going to have to re-use a title already filmed by the past Bond series (i.e. LIVE AND LET DIE) or come up with something original. QUANTUM OF SOLACE might sound a little bizarre but come on folks, it's miles better than NEVER SAY, DIE ANOTHER or GOLD-whatever. Here's the full press conference from earlier today...

You can also see a full mash up of behind-the-scenes footage from the set of the new film HERE which has been pieced together from the various scenes sent out to the world's media today. We now also have an official plot synopsis (which might contain small spoilers)...
Betrayed by Vesper, the woman he loved, 007 fights the urge to make his latest mission personal. Pursuing his determination to uncover the truth, Bond and M (JUDI DENCH) interrogate Mr White (JESPER CHRISTENSEN) who reveals the organisation which blackmailed Vesper is far more complex and dangerous than anyone had imagined. Forensic intelligence links an Mi6 traitor to a bank account in Haiti where a case of mistaken identity introduces Bond to the beautiful but feisty Camille (OLGA KURYLENKO), a woman who has her own vendetta. Camille leads Bond straight to Dominic Greene (MATHIEU AMALRIC), a ruthless business man and major force within the mysterious organisation. On a mission that leads him to Austria, Italy and South America, Bond discovers that Greene, conspiring to take total control of one of the world€™s most important natural resources, is forging a deal with the exiled General Medrano (JOAQUIN COSIO). Using his associates in the organisation, and manipulating his powerful contacts within the CIA and the British government, Greene promises to overthrow the existing regime in a Latin American country, giving the General control of the country in exchange for a seemingly barren piece of land. In a minefield of treachery, murder and deceit, Bond allies with old friends in a battle to uncover the truth. As he gets closer to finding the man responsible for the betrayal of Vesper, 007 must keep one step ahead of the CIA, the terrorists and even M, to unravel Greene€™s sinister plan and stop his organisation.
Sounds really cool to me. I love that they are keeping the idea of the big "mysterious organisation" and it's going to be fascinating to see this large sub-plot grow and grow with each film. Hopefully they will secure a huge actor to play the "big bad" whenever it comes down to it. Someone MEGA huge. And before I finish, an interesting quote from Daniel Craig on the title to BBC News...
'Basically, it€™s his idea that once the quantum of solace leaves a relationship, it€™s all over. If you don€™t have that quantum of solace, then there€™s not much left worth fighting for... So, it€™s a lot to do with where he is at at the end of the last movie. His heart€™s been broken and he€™s going out to find the guy who is responsible. He€™s looking for revenge, but he also wants to make himself happy with the world again.€™
Other interesting details... New film will take some of the 'tone' of Fleming's book but the plot has not been taken directly from the novel. It's mostly the title they have gone for. No Eva Green in the new film. We get to see more of M's apartment and her husband in the film... something I hated from that one scene in CASINO ROYALE. No plans at the moment to bring back Moneypenny or Q. QUANTUM OF SOLACE (gonna take some getting use to isn't it?) opens on November 7th two weeks before Britain's other massive character Harry Potter returns to our screens. The 22nd James Bond film will be directed by German born helmer Marc Foster (his first action movie) and will again star Daniel Craig and Judi Dench alongside Mathieu Amalric (villain), Oleg Kurlyenko (Camille, Bond Girl), Gemma Arteton (Agent Fields), Jeffrey Wright (Felix), Giancarlo Giannini (Mathis) and Jesper Christensen (Mr. White). Let us know what you think of the new title below... source - commander bond
