Solo: A Star Wars Story - 10 Best Callbacks To The Original Saga Explained

Towards the end of Solo, after the film's main heist is completed, Tobias Beckett lets Han in of the fact that he's already preparing for another job, in which he plans to rip off a "big shot gangster" who lives on Tatooine. Following Beckett's betrayal in the film's climax, Han and Chewie go on their way and decide that they should see the job through at some point.

It's rather obvious that the gangster being referred to is the infamous Jabba the Hutt.

In turn, it seems that the job Beckett first told Han about is what eventually led to the sequence of events from the Original Trilogy that involved Han owing Jabba a large sum of money, Han being frozen in carbonite after Boba Fett pursued him at Jabba's behest, and, ultimately, the death of Jabba at the hands of Princess Leia during the heroes' bid to get Han back.

Jabba's reputation as a powerful crime boss was later reinforced in The Phantom Menace when Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon suggest that their party take refuge on Tatooine, as it is controlled by the Hutts, as opposed to the Trade Federation. Captain Panaka initially protests, declaring that they cannot take Queen Amidala there because "the Hutts are gangsters."
