After months of talk surrounding its troubled production, from the original directors being fired to an acting coach being hired, it’s now time for people to see exactly what Solo: A Star Wars Story delivers.

Solo, under the guidance of Ron Howard and with a script from Lawrence and Jon Kasdan, essentially serves as an origin story for our favourite rogue, showing us how he goes from a teenager on Corellia to the smuggler we meet in the cantina on Mos Eisley in Star Wars.

Along the way he picks up some new friends, including a Wookiee by the name of Chewbacca and a smuggler called Lando Calrissian, with the movie showing us not only how he develops these key relationships but how they in turn develop him, from the idealistic youngster to the cynical scoundrel.

While the opening of the movie does drag a bit, the majority zips along at a lovely pace, which is in part due to getting most of the cast together and allowing their natural talent and chemistry to shine through. Many of the characters get their time in the spotlight, although a couple, perhaps inevitably due to the heist nature of the movie, are given short shrift, and a few fall foul of either poor performances or scripting issues, and here's how they all stack up.
