While there have been a number of doubts around the movie, one thing that almost everyone has been looking forward to is Donald Glover's take on Lando Calrissian. Glover's a fantastic talent, and the trailers showed him in a better light than anyone else.

It's not much of a surprise, then, that he is every bit as good as you'd expect. It's a little much to say he completely steals the show, but his entrance into the story is the turning point in terms of quality. There are strong Billy Dee Williams vibes in the actor's performance, and he nicely balances that with his own unique charms and a slight vulnerability and sense he's not so cocksure as he makes out that make this a perfect take on young Lando.

His partner in crime is L3-37, a droid with attitude played by Phoebe Waller-Bridge. The duo make for an entertaining double-act, flirtations and all, but the character stands out on her own thanks to the vocal performance from Waller-Bridge and the equal rights for droids message the character spreads.
