Sonic The Hedgehog Review: 10 Biggest Questions Answered
1. In Conclusion, Is It Worth A Watch?
It's fair to say this is a REAL mixed bag, neither the utter disaster some had feared nor the surefire hit Sega would have hoped for.
For a harmless piece of fun for the younger members of the family, this does the job, but the film is far from perfect.
The saving grace is always Sonic, which was obviously essential for the film's success.
The scriptwriters need to cop the majority of the blame for the issues here, with every scene not featuring the titular hedgehog dragging. The film also stinks of studio interference, with plot points like Tom's affection for the small home town of Green Hills appearing from nowhere.
One has to think that scenes setting up Sergeant Tom carrying out seemingly futile jobs around the small town were left out by either the screenwriters or the editors for the sake of keeping the runtime to a minimum, too.
It's not a bad idea, especially for a family film, but some of the choices as to which scenes were kept and which were cut are baffling.
Only the box office will tell if a sequel will occur, but it seems less likely than likely. The appearance of a fan favourite in a mid credit sequence is promising, so hope springs eternal.
If the sequel doesn't occur, we will just to have to cross our fingers for the Crazy Carl spin off, which would just be awesome.
