Spectre: 5 Things The New James Bond Trailer Got Wrong

1. The Slowed Down Theme Tune

It's not just movies themselves that all copy whatever's popular (see how literally ever franchise is now all about shared universes), but also their trailers. A few years back, every ad for a action/sci-fi movie was punctuated by a loud boom aping Inceptions now-iconic "BRAM", but as everybody got sick of that (or sound mixers ran out of ways to make new, semi-distinct booms) other audio tropes have risen to take its place. One of the most common for reboots of popular franchises is to play their theme tune slowed down to an obnoxious speed to prey on audience recognition, while also hinting this isn't just a retread of the original, but something new and fitting with the darker blockbuster landscape. Jurassic World did it and now Spectre's got in the act. It'll be a wonder if The Force Awakens' second trailer doesn't play Binary Sunset at an agonisingly slow pace. But it's not ubiquity that's the issue with the trick - it's the simple fact that it doesn't work. In both World and Spectre it's played simply too slow to be instantly noticeable, making it more of a lazy easter egg a la There Are No Strings On Me for Avengers: Age Of Ultron than a rousing announcement of a new film. So, really, what's the point? What did you make of the Spectre teaser? Are you excited for Bond 24 or does you just want to watch the Connery flicks on repeat? Discuss all things Bond down in the comments.
