French actor
Melvil Poupaud has joined the cast of
Speed Racer as an ex-racing champion who turns commentator for the TV network featured in the
Wachowski's much anticipated movie. The actor told
Coming Soon that...
"he's kind of cool and pretentious, and at one point, when the race becomes crazy, he starts speaking in French."
In other Speed Racer news, Nicktoons will air 26 newly produced animated shows of the 60's T.V. series which have been developed by Lionsgate. Although the series will air around the same time as the film is released, it won't have any connection what-so-ever to it. Fans of the original prepare for some changes in the show. It's said that the chimpanzee will be changed to a mechanical robot, an updated car will now be called the Mach 6 and the lead character will be the son of the original series. source -
